Pale di San Lucano loop
3 days in the wildest part of the Dolomites 31 May - 2 June & 12 - 14 September
Service Description
THE TREK IN BRIEF 3 days of walking 2 nights under the stars 45 km 2,500 metres of elevation gain 2,500 metres of elevation loss Minimum altitude: Col di Prà, 850 m Maximum altitude: Forcella Pape, 2,285 m Starting and finishing point: Col di Prà Difficulty: EE WHY DO THIS TREK The Dolomites are the most famous mountains in the world. People come from all corners of the globe to see the Three Peaks, the Odle and the Tofane. But there are smaller groups, overlooked by mass tourism, that are full of charm. Take a little bit of American wilderness, the barely visible paths typical of the wildest Piedmont valleys, aerial ridge passages, and add the vertical, clear peaks of Dolomia. You will get the explosive recipe for this breathtaking trek. This beautiful loop will allow us to explore this small group, overlooked because it lies in the shadow of the great Civetta to the north and the fascinating Pale di San Martino to the south. We will pass through pastures still used today by the few local shepherds, dotted with huts used as bivouacs. We will walk on semi-abandoned trails, practically impossible to find for those who do not know them. We will sleep on meadows with incredible views of the surrounding mountains. We will also pass by the famous Bedin bivouac, the only well-known place in the group, which has rightly earned the title of “the most beautiful bivouac in the Dolomites”. An unmissable trip for all adventure lovers! DIFFICULTY This trek has short stages, but significant elevation gains. The first two days we will have to climb more than 1000 metres, while the last day we will descend almost 2000 metres! All this while carrying everything we need for the three days of walking: both sleeping gear and food. We will not encounter any shelters along the way. We will spend both nights near bivouacs, but we will not use them except in case of emergency. The path is very uneven and sometimes faint, which makes walking slower and more tiring than normal. Some short sections are very exposed, so this walk is not suitable for those who suffer from vertigo.
