White plateau

Snowshoeing in Mondeval - 5 January

30 euros
Flora Alpina Refuge

Service Description

The Mondeval plateau is a unique place that transforms into a white expanse surrounded by ice peaks in winter. Inhabited since prehistoric times, this place provides us with many historical and naturalistic insights into the history of the Dolomites. Before setting off, we will learn how to use snowshoes correctly, before venturing into the snow-covered woods. Winter is the best time to learn about life in the woods: the snow is a blank sheet on which animals write their presence, which we will learn to read. As we leave the woods, the view of the surrounding mountains begins to open up: Pelmo and Civetta behind us, while Sorapiss and Antelao await us as soon as we reach Forcella Ambrizzola. From here, the white peaks of Croda da Lago seem to plunge into the frozen lake below. We are now on the plateau, where our snowshoes leave a white trail in the snow. We will reach Forcella Ambrizzola to take a look at the peaks of the Ampezzo valley, before beginning our descent towards the Città di Fiume mountain hut. PROGRAMME Meeting at 8.30 a.m. at Baita Flora Alpina, along the Staulanza Pass road. After a short briefing, we will set off on the excursion. Return scheduled for 5 p.m. PHYSICAL EFFORT Difficulty: medium Elevation gain: 800 metres Walking time: 6-7 hours WHAT TO BRING - Snowshoes and poles - Comfortable, warm shoes and clothing - Gaiters - Gloves and hat - Windproof jacket - Sunglasses - Packed lunch, water or hot tea
