Snowshoe hike to the Five Towers and Nuvolau

Service Description

Get ready to discover the magic of the snow-covered Dolomites! This itinerary is a classic in summer, but it becomes even more charming in winter. We will reach the summit of Nuvolau, at almost 2,600 metres, walking through the snow. We will start from the Bai de Dones hut, where you will find the car park for the 5 Torri chairlift. After putting on our snowshoes, we will begin our ascent through the snow-covered forest. With a few steep stretches, the trail will take us to the foot of the 5 Torri, where we can admire a spectacular view! From here, we will continue climbing to the Scoiattoli mountain hut, the ideal place for a short break with a view and hot chocolate! From here, we will walk alongside the ski slope for a while, but the presence of a path reserved for snowshoers will make the climb safe and enjoyable. Once we reach the Averau refuge, the climb becomes more challenging, a few steps from the precipice overlooking the valley, surrounded by famous peaks. Finally, at the top, we can enjoy the view and learn to recognise all the surrounding peaks. From here, in good weather, you can see practically all of the Dolomites, from the tapered peaks of the Odle to the distant plateau of the Pale di San Martino. We will stop for lunch and a hot tea, then return to the Averau refuge. The rest of the descent will be along the same route as the ascent. Elevation gain: 700 metres Walking time: 5 hours Departure: Baita Bai de Dones Departure time: 9.00 a.m. Expected return by 4/5 p.m. What to bring: - snowshoes and trekking poles - gaiters - warm clothing - gloves, spare gloves, woolly hat - sunglasses - packed lunch, water or hot tea Snowshoes are not included, but if you don't have any and want to hire them, I can arrange it for you. The cost is 10euros. Minimum 3 participants, maximum 10. Registration by the Thursday before.
